Yes!  It’s finally happened.  I’m done.  After 6 long years the entire series is available for sale.  So that means if you’ve been sleeping and if you sleep a little longer then you will miss your chance at getting your very own copy.  Are you going to wait for the trade paperback?  Don’t count on it.  It might be a while and the movie will have already been out (foreshadowing…) before the trade is printed.  Although I might cave in to demand and I will have to print the trade.  You can ask your comic shop to see if they can reorder the book (where I don’t make a dime due to shipping and Diamond’s cut) or you can order it directly from me through my website.  Asking your shop might not work because I’m not sure if Diamond is saying that this is still available.  I’ve been having problems, especially overseas.  In England and Denmark I’ve been hearing from people that the book is sold out.  Diamond tells me these shops have to work a little harder at it.

If you’re going to order the book through the site then just click on the shop link on the left of the page.  You can’t miss the “shop” link; well at least I hope you can’t miss it.  There are 10 comics that have been printed if you’re a “completist”.  There are 2 covers for each of the 4 issues and the two preview issues.  All supplies are limited and documented out in the shop area.  My personal collection is also listed out there on the bottom of the shop page as well.

CiCi: The Movie

In the process of finding Platinum Studios I came across Rob Worley’s site Comics2Film.com.  I sent Rob an e-mail and asked him if he had heard of a studio that picks up independent projects and might convert them into a major motion picture.  I vaguely remembered the Platinum name, but Rob set me straight and also told me to look up Daniel Alter too.  So Rob pointed me to Platinum’s site and I got all the submission information and forms for Platinum’s submissions process.  I also sent Daniel an e-mail.  I usually save everything but I don’t remember if Daniel replied.  I’m pretty sure he did, otherwise I would have sent him another message.  Being laid off really taught me to be persistent.

A few weeks ago Daniel called me out of the blue and said he saw my book in a shop and he knew he had seen it before.  He ended up reading the whole series and absolutely loved it.  Daniel is with Energy Entertainment (www.EnergyEntertainment.net ).  I got the contract shortly thereafter and there a few questions that I had, but everything looked pretty good.  Once I know the full process I’ll keep you informed.  Right now Energy will find a big named writer who is available and wants to work on the project.  They basically have a bunch of writers that they can get a hold of and see who would like to try to tackle CiCi.  Daniel has some favorites in mind and he thinks he can get his first choice.  I’m not sure of the next detailed step, but they basically will come up with a script and pitch it to different studios.  I’m relieved that I will be consulted in the whole process.  Of course the movie studio has final say since it IS their money.

Needless to say I’m VERY excited.  I’m excited that Daniel is as pumped about this as I am.  I’m hopeful that this will generate more visibility for CiCi and Spilled Milk.  If this thing goes through to the end then I will be able to continue publishing an ongoing series and possibly more movies too.  That would be very cool.

Comics2Film.com

The main reason I’m trying to get this update out now is that Rob Worley called me a few days ago for an interview.  It went well and he posted his article on his site this morning.  If you can’t find it on the main page (www.Comics2Film.com ) then you can also look for it on (www.ComicBookResources.com ).  And if it’s not there then you can try a few other links:

The C2F @ CBR Page: http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/c2f.cgi

Fanboy Planet Interview

I’m sending this quick note because Derek McCaw of Fanboy Planet (www.FanboyPlanet.com ) told me my interview was up and got a front page placement.  So please go to his site and check it out.  Sooner or later I’ll have it archived on my site, but get out there and don’t be lazy.  Get some munchies and something to drink, because this could be a little long.  That’s why this update is the shortest one on record.  That interview sure answers a LOT of questions from all directions.  If that link doesn’t work then you can just go to the Spilled Milk site main page and it should still be there.

Majesticon

YES!  The Majesticon (www.Majesticon.com ) was VERY cool.  Everybody was there…  Dave Finch, Joe Benitez, Keu Cha, and Monte Moore.  I have signed copies available on the site, but they’re going fast.  Some of the logistics should have been changed a little.  It would have been nice if the line went in front of my booth, but then that might have blocked other people getting to it.  So I’m not really sure what would have been better.  It was great seeing Dave and Joe again and it was my first time meeting Keu after talking on the phone with him quite a few times.  I guess that was the same weekend that Michael Turner was in town so they hooked up with him and Scott Campbell (who lives in the Denver area).  It would have been cool to meet Campbell and Turner outside of the fan arena, but they headed back to Scott’s house to talk about the old days of Image (I guess).

Things To Do

It’s amazing what I still have to do as far as the website.  I’d like to have a Character Bio page.  A Director’s Cut would be nice and it will be FREE (although you really need a copy of CiCi, but you don’t have to).  The Director’s Cut area will have a complete breakdown of the story and my thoughts on each page.  Update the shop page so it will automatically send me a message and send the buyer a receipt as well.  Add a slide show so viewing samples is easier.  Make things work better for that 5% of Mac Users accessing the site.  Add a SMART Technology section.  If the movie ever sees the screen then there might be some of this that you see in the background.

E-Dispatch from the Great White North

http://www.twmgrafix.com/edispatch/default.htm

Jonathan did a great review of the series.  He stumbled across the site and said he does the occasional review.  I sent him a set and he put one up on his e-zine.  That was pretty cool.

Over The Edge

You probably saw my full page ad in the Wizard Edge.  They did a great job with placement (inside back cover), I couldn’t have been happier.  Casey liked the book and made it stand out amongst the rest on the inside where they gave a run-down of the upcoming books from us “indies”.  I thought the site and sales would have picked up, but the industry as a whole is in a slump.  Although it did jog Daniel Alter’s memory a bit and he got a hold of me shortly after seeing the small blurb in Wizard.

Punahou Bulletin

I'd like to give a shout out to Laurie Chang.  It took a few months before the preview saw print, but they ran my "Puns In Print" story synopsis in the Winter Edition of the Punahou Bulletin.  Not that it generated any more sales, but I figured the visibility couldn't hurt.  So if you can get your hands on the latest Punahou Bulletin then you'll see a small story synopsis that I wrote for it.  Even though I was only there from 5th through 8th grade, I'm still considered an Alumn.

Microsoft for the Military (Gainfully Employed)

I accepted a position with ACS Government Services (www.acs-inc.com ) back in November and I do pretty much what I did at NELnet.  For those of you who are C++ programmers, ACS is a very diverse shop but the group I’m in is doing straight MFC code and soon will be moving to the .NET framework.  There are few people who are doing some Cold Fusion so I hope I will be able to add that to my “tool belt”.  It’s very different working for the military.  Some of my clients are high ranking officers and you see many people in the building in uniform.

3 Feet Under

Well that’s all for now.  Sorry, there is no rant.  I suppose I could rant about all this snow we’ve got over the past few days, but we really needed it.  Plus it gave me a mini-weekend right in the middle of the week.  Our official total was 35” and but it feels like I shoveled 100.

Thanks for all your support!
